Eau Claire (WQOW) - One area business is making sure families are fed over the holidays with a sizable donation to Feed My People Food Bank.

Schuman Cheese donated two truckloads of cheese, fruit and nut snack packages to the food bank Friday. That's over 9,000 pounds of food.

Feed My People will distribute the snacks all across the Chippewa Valley to numerous pantries.

Schuman Cheese plant manager Sami Erickson said they want to do what they can to help people in need.

"This is something that Schuman Cheese holds near and dear as we like to donate back to the communities that we have, that our plant is in," said Erickson. "It's great to be part of the local community and help make a difference."

Feed My People said the donation will come in handy over the next few weeks as families will be looking to stock up on food when schools let out for winter break, and winter weather could make it harder to get to a meal.

"I just think of the families going to the pantries that are going to be receiving this super healthy to eat, ready to go snack," said Susie Haugley, communications specialist at Feed My People. "It's perfect for kids, it's perfect for seniors. It's there, it's ready to eat. It has healthy cheese, berries and nuts in it, and so how perfect is that?"

Haugley said the donation would be spread throughout all 14 counties the food bank serves.
