Eau Claire (WQOW) - Some state lawmakers and Eau Claire residents want President Trump to act on a bill to lower prescription drug costs.

Tuesday, Senator Jeff Smith (D) Eau Claire, along with members of Citizen Action of Wisconsin, and several other Eau Claire residents, demanded action on a bill passed in the U.S House of Representatives that would decrease the cost of several prescription drugs across the country.

"We have a president who refuses to lift a finger on this issue and he has sat idly by as prescription drugs continue to rise," Sen. Smith said.

The bill has received criticism from Republicans, who say it's not up to the federal government to set drug price standards.

However, according to Senator Smith, lowering the costs of medicine shouldn't be a partisan issue.
