Eau Claire (WQOW) - Hundreds of people in need were able to get a free hot meal thanks to Hope Gospel Mission.

Hope Gospel along with dozens of volunteers held their annual Christmas community dinner Saturday afternoon.

Those who helped serve stressed the importance of helping the community when they can, especially during the holidays.

One volunteer said all the effort that goes into putting on such a large charity event is worth it, knowing people are getting the assistance they need this season.

"It is a lot of work, but it's rewarding," said Patrick Hanson, a volunteer. "It's a rewarding kind of work. It's not one that you go away with disgusted or upset or despondent. It's the kind you go away with thinking, 'I've done good.'"

This is the 13th year Hope Gospel has put on the Christmas dinner.
