Eau Claire (WQOW) - Just shy of three weeks after racist messages came to light at UW-Eau Claire, the chancellor is taking even more measures to make sure it does not happen again.

At 1:30 p.m., Chancellor James Schmidt will announce two initiatives by the university.

The first is the formation of a Rapid Action Task Force for Equity, Diversity and Inclusion.

The second is an independent third-party review of the university's athletics program.

UWEC quickly suspended five players believed responsible for sending the racist messages back in November.

On top of that, the chancellor announced late last week the students would face additional disciplinary sanctions. He did not say what those sanctions are.

Monday's press conference will take place inside the Davies Center and will be live here on WQOW.com.

Chancellor Schmidt will make remarks and will be joined by UWEC Athletic Director Dan Schumacher and three co-chairs of the task force Jan Larson, professor and chair of communication and journalism; Kim Wudi, head women’s volleyball coach; and student Yousra Bentaalla.
