Sacred Heart holds remembrance ceremony for lost infants, pregnancies

Eau Claire (WQOW) - One local hospital offered some solace and support for parents mourning the loss of a baby.

HSHS Sacred Heart held a memorial service Sunday evening for family and friends grieving children lost to miscarriage, stillbirth, ectopic pregnancy, early infant death, or SIDS within the past year.

Those in attendance were encouraged to bring a Christmas ornament to hang on the hospital chapel's tree in remembrance of the lives lost.

The hospital's spiritual care services said the holidays can be an especially difficult time for those grieving the loss of an infant.

"A lot of times you think of joy, festive gifts and presents, but yet people that live with a loss don't always see it as a joyous occasion," said Eric Butters, spiritual care manager at HSHS Sacred Heart. "It stirs up a lot of emotions, a lot of feelings, a lot of grief, and we wanted to make sure they had a space to be able to honor their lost pregnancy, their lost baby."

The tree filled with special ornaments will remain in the chapel for the rest of the holiday season to honor those lost.
