Chippewa Valley law enforcement shops with kids for the holidays

It's the duty of law enforcement to protect, serve and as of Sunday, shop!

Sheriff's deputies and police officers from all around the Chippewa Valley met at Super Target in Eau Claire Sunday afternoon for the 27th annual Kids 'N Cops Shopping Day.

The event paired children in need with a member of law enforcement to buy warm winter clothing, lunch for the day and some exciting toys for Christmas that they may not otherwise be able to get.

Lt. Cory Schalinske with the Eau Claire Sheriff's Office said it warms his heart to make families' holidays a bit brighter and make some special connections with the community at the same time.

"Those relationships last years," Lt. Shalinske said. "I ran into a child that I shopped with my very first year and he came up and gave me a hug and he remembered me. So it's a special day."

The event was funded through donations from the community and local businesses.
