Eau Claire City Council to decide how to fill vacant seat

Eau Claire (WQOW) -- The Eau Claire City Council will decide whether to appoint a new member or leave the seat open until the spring election.

Former city council member Laura Benjamin resigned in late November. On Tuesday, the council will decide how and when the newest councilmember will be chosen.

If the council decides to appoint someone to serve the remainder of Benjamin's term, candidacy applications would be accepted through January 7. Based on the timeline being proposed to the council, the newest member would be chosen at the January 14 meeting.

No matter how the council decides to proceed, Benjamin's at-large seat will be on the ballot in the spring election in April.
