500 coats dropped off for Eau Claire students

Eau Claire (WQOW) – Hundreds of elementary students within the Eau Claire School District got a brand new coat thanks to ‘Operation Warm.’

Friday, the Eau Claire Firefighters Community Charity was at Putnam Heights Elementary dropping off coats to kids in need.

Dave Pekol, the president of the charity, says they were able to donate over 500 coats, valued at over $11,000.

Their goal is to deliver them all on Friday so every kid that needs one has one in time for Thanksgiving.

“Some of these kids are not able to go out and play at recess,” Pekol said. “The schools have guidelines where if it’s a certain temperature and you don’t have proper clothes they withhold you from recess.”

Pekol said all of the coats are brand new. The cost of the coats was covered by a lot of donations from the community, including a fundraiser that was held at Nothern Tap House earlier this week.
