Eau Claire (WQOW) – A local food bank hopes a few deer shot over the gun deer season will be donated to help the hungry in our area.
Feed My People Food Bank is looking for venison donations. The meat can be brought in person as long as they have proof it was taken to a legitimate processor.
Hunters can also give through the DNR’s deer donation program.
The program works with processors across the state to handle the deer at no cost to the hunter. The donated meat will then be distributed by the DNR to food banks, including Feed My People.
Assistant director Suzanne Becker said just one deer can feed multiple families.
“Any kind of meat for low-income families is often cost-prohibitive,” Becker said. “So, this is a product that, when we receive venison, it does not last in the food bank long.”
Becker said they accept venison in any form as long as it is processed.
If you’re not a hunter but would still like to help, the DNR also accepts monetary donations to cover the processing costs.
