WATCH: Augusta bus driver surprised live on ABC’s “Good Morning America”

Augusta (WQOW) – A bus driver who said she was just showing basic human kindness by comforting a boy scared on the first day of school was honored in a big way on national television on Monday.

Back in September, four-year-old Axel Johnson was getting on the bus and going to his very first day of school when the nerves got the best of him. A photo of his bus driver Isabel Lane holding his hand when he got on the bus went viral.

“I could see that he really didn’t want to let his mom go,” Lane told “Good Morning America.” “It was just a natural reaction to give him my hand in hopes that it would calm some of those first-day jitters.”

Lane told News 18 she was just trying to help and she finds herself comforting kids from all grades and walks of life every day.

On Monday morning, “Good Morning America” was live in Augusta where they surprised Lane with the day off work and a spa day at Lotus Spa in Eau Claire. It was part of GMA’s Make Your Monday segment. You can watch the entire segment in the video player above.
