Eau Claire man sentenced after pleading guilty to stabbing roommate’s dog

Eau Claire (WQOW) — An Eau Claire man who was accused of stabbing his roommate’s dog has been sentenced.

In September, William Geiger pleaded guilty to mistreatment of animals in Eau Claire County Court.

According to the criminal complaint, Geiger told police his roommate’s dog bit him after Geiger kicked it. Geiger said he then grabbed a knife and stabbed the dog in the throat. The dog had to be put down to end its suffering.

On Friday, Eau Claire County Judge Emily Long sentenced Geiger to two years of probation, five days in jail with Huber and 40 hours of community service. He’s also ordered to take both an anger management and mental health assessment.

Geiger can also not own or possess any animals and must maintain absolute sobriety.
