Former Eau Claire firefighter gets probation and community service in embezzlement case

Eau Claire County (WQOW) – A former Eau Claire firefighter charged with stealing more than $18,000 from the firefighter’s labor union was sentenced on Thursday.

William Drath was the union treasurer from 2006 to 2016.

After digging through 2,600 pages of records, police found fraudulent transactions adding up to more than $18,000 over the course of six years.

In August, Drath pleaded guilty to two counts of theft from a business setting.

Thursday, Judge Emily Long sentenced him to three years of probation.

He will avoid jail time if he completes 480 hours of community service. He is also ordered not to wear any fire department apparel or have non-emergency contact with the department.
