Eau Claire (WQOW) – Eau Claire police have flagged at least 2,000 cars since alternate side parking went into effect, but so far, none of the brightly-colored pieces of paper have been tickets.
Starting November 1, drivers were required to park on the even side of the road on even nights and odd sides on odd nights every day from midnight to 7 a.m. until May 1.
Eau Claire police officer Bridget Coit says so far, police have only issued warnings, and it’s been effective as the number of them issued has gone down.
She also says while they haven’t issued any citations yet, that doesn’t mean people should be lax.
“Even though we have been working hard on the education for alternate side parking and having those warnings be part of that education, it is still a city ordinance that was in effect November 1, so those traffic tickets and parking tickets could be issued at any time,” said Coit.
Coit says giving a citation is up to the officer’s discretion.
If you do park on the wrong side, you could receive a $30 ticket.
