Menomonie (WQOW) — For the first time since 2016, Menomonie has advanced to level four of the high school football playoffs. The Mustangs will take on Menasha Friday night, and with a win advance to the state championship at Camp Randall.
The Bluejays are also 11-1 overall on the season, avenging their only loss to previously unbeaten West De Pere last week by ten points. Senior running back Tyler Roehl (1,621 yards, 17 touchdowns) and senior quarterback Cole Popp (1,844 total yards, 26 touchdowns) form a dynamic one-two punch in the backfield. Menomonie head coach Joe LaBuda knows just how challenging the Bluejays will be.
“It’s a big jump up when you get to this level. You’re always going to take a huge level-up as far as your competition, and our kids know that. And it’s definitely true this year,” LaBuda says. “We’ve got to keep playing with confidence, like what our guys have done the first three levels of the playoffs. They played with confidence, and even though it’s a big jump up in competition level they still have to play with confidence.”
The game will be played at Marshfield High School on Friday night, kick-off set for 7 p.m.
