Eau Claire man going to prison for writing bad checks

Chippewa County (WQOW) – An area man charged with writing worthless checks this week in Eau Claire County was sentenced on similar charges filed in 2018 in Chippewa County.

According to police, Ryan Sturz of Eau Claire wrote more than $138,000 worth of bad checks to area boat, car, lawn equipment and trailer dealers.

At the time, he told police he would re-sell the items to support his cocaine habit.

Wednesday he pleaded guilty to one count of theft as part of a plea deal.

Judge James Isaacson sentenced him to three years in prison followed by three years of extended supervision.

Sturz is accused of writing $87,000 worth of bad checks in Eau Claire County. He returns to court in that case in early December.
