Dunn County (WQOW) – The Dunn County Board voted to impose a wheel tax to pay for road projects in the county on Tuesday night.
The $20 tax would apply for each car, van, SUV or truck registered in the county. Farm trucks and other vehicles weighing more than 8,000 pounds would be exempt.
County Manager Paul Miller said with a decline in state funding the wheel tax could help the county make up $725,000 a year.
The money would be used to fix the county’s 425 miles of highways which have an average age of 37 years old.
The wheel tax will go into effect in January and expire in December of 2022.
