Eau Claire (WQOW) — On National Signing Day, a pair of Eau Claire boys basketball players inked their letters of intent to play in college. North’s Dalton Banks signed to play at Southern Illinois University, and Memorial’s Caden Boser will suit up for the University of Missouri-Kansas City.
Banks has already had a record-setting career for the Huskies, becoming the all-time leading scorer his junior season. He’ll join a Salukis’ team that’s part of the Missouri Valley Conference, and finished last season 17-15 overall. And even though Southern Illinois came in late during his recruiting process, Banks’ decision ultimately came down to a couple of things.
“For me it was all about fit. When I took my official visit there back in October, I just really felt like I fit in. They have Marcus Domask, another Wisconsin guy, who’s playing well right now, and for me they’re all driven like I am,” Banks says. “They all want to get better, they want to win games, and I just felt really comfortable there. So I think that was the biggest thing for me when it came down to deciding, was the guys there and I just felt really comfortable there.”
Across town at Eau Claire Memorial High School, Caden Boser will also continue his basketball career in division one. He will be a Roos next season at the University of Missouri-Kansas City, a team that’s a part of the Western Athletic Conference. They have a first-year head coach in Billy Donlon now running the program, and it’s that relationship that sealed the deal for Boser.
“He’s the coach that really stood out from all the other schools that had offered me,” says Boser. “I like the program. He’s a new coach, so it’s his first year and he’s really building something special down there. So I think he’s got a good thing going down there, and it’s exciting to be able to play for him next year.”
The Huskies and Old Abes will meet up on Friday, January 17th at Eau Claire North High School.
