Debate set for 2 Republicans running for Sean Duffy’s vacated seat

Wausau (WQOW) – Two Republicans seeking to fill an open Congressional seat will square off next month.

State Senator Tom Tiffany and retired Army Captain Jason Church will share the stage for a debate on December 12 in Wausau at Westwood Conference Center.

The debate will take place 10 days after the candidate filing deadline.

No Better Friend Corp is hosting the debate. The organization was founded by former Republican Senate candidate Kevin Nicholson.

Retired Marathon County hobby farmer Michael Opela, who is also running as a Republican, will not be attending because of a scheduling conflict.

Also not invited are Democratic candidates Tricia Zunker, a law professor and Lawrence Dale, a Vietnam veteran.

The primary is February 18 and the special election is May 12.
