Gov. Evers takes GOP leadership to task over gun reforms

MADISON (WKOW) — In a letter sent to legislative leaders, Gov. Tony Evers called on them to take action on gun reform during a special legislative session called for Thursday.

“It’s time to stop with the partisan games and political power grabs, and to start listening to the people of this state and to get to work on address gun violence in Wisconsin,” Evers wrote. The letter is addressed to Assembly Speaker Robin Vos (R-Rochester) and Senate Majority Leader Scott Fitzgerald (R-Juneau).

The governor said GOP leadership is defying broad popular support for some gun control measures by not taking a vote on the proposals.

“The people of this state expect more of their elected officials and they deserve to know where each of those 132 members stand on these critical proposals,” Evers wrote.
