How you can keep your kids safe online

Eau Claire (WQOW) – Today, children can access a plethora of information in the palm of their hand, but experts say parents need to watch out for what, or who, can harm their kids.

In honor of National Cybersecurity Awareness Month, the Eau Claire Area School District is sharing tips about how to keep students safe online.

At home, Superintendent Mary Ann Hardebeck advises parents to be aware of what websites their children are on and install a firewall to protect personal information.

In the district, staff installed applications on school devices designed to block phishing and spoofing. They also use multi-factor authentication to log into accounts.

“Our personal information is very valuable,” Hardebeck said. “It’s not only valuable to us personally, but it’s valuable to other people. People can use it for illegal purposes, and so it’s very important that we have those protections in place.”
