Eau Claire man pleads no contest to sexual assault charges

Eau Claire County (WQOW) – An Eau Claire man accused of sexually assaulting young girls during a child sleepover has pleaded no contest to all the charges against him.

Robert Charbonneau, 28, was charged in 2017 with inappropriately touching four girls under the age of 12 at a sleepover.

At the time, he told investigators his urges got the best of him and he knew what he was doing was wrong.

Friday in Eau Claire County Court, Charbonneau pleaded no contest to three amended counts of 2nd degree sexual assault of a child and one count of repeated sexual assault of a child as part of a plea agreement.

He was taken into custody and will be held until his sentencing hearing in January.

Based on the charges, he faces a maximum penalty of more than 150 years in prison.
