Update: Sheriff identifies teens killed in Polk County crash

Update (WQOW) – The Polk County sheriff has identified the two teens killed in a fatal crash Monday afternoon in Clear Lake.

Polk County Sheriff Brent Waak said in a release that 16 year old Michael Magnuson, from rural Clayton, was the driver of the car that crashed into a semi truck. 16 year old Grace Schradle, also from rural Clayton, was the passenger and was also killed in the crash.

Sheriff Waak said the department is sending thoughts and prayers to the families and the community as they deal with this tragic event.



Polk County (WQOW) – 
Two people are dead after a car crashed into a semi truck in Polk County Monday.

According to a release from the Polk County Sheriff’s Office, it happened on US Highway 63 at the intersection of 60th Avenue in the Town of Clear Lake around 2 p.m.

Witnesses told first responders a car traveling east on 60th Avenue did not come to a complete stop when entering Highway 63. The car collided with a passing semi that was pulling a trailer. Witnesses said the semi truck was halfway through the intersection when the car ran into the side of the trailer.

The two occupants of the car died at the scene.

The crash remains under investigation by the Wisconsin State Patrol and the Polk County Sheriff’s Office.

The names of the persons involved in the crash will be released at a later date.

The Clayton School District did confirm that the two people who died were students in the district. District Administrator Ed Cerney said the school will be offering support to students and staff on Tuesday. All evening athletic activities were also postponed.
