Eau Claire man charged for allegedly going into woman’s home, calling 911 with her phone

Eau Claire (WQOW) – An Eau Claire man was charged on Monday because he allegedly called 911 after breaking into an Eau Claire home.

Police called the homeowner on September 6 after a 911 hangup was recorded from her home.

The woman told the dispatch center she had not made the call and that everything was OK.

After she hung up, she heard a voice say, “It was me who called 911.”

The woman said Leander Gregg had broken into her home and made the call. He claimed he lived in the neighborhood and had lost the battery to his phone and used the homeowner’s instead.

Police made contact shortly after.

Gregg told police he thought people were chasing him so he kicked in the side door of a home and called 911.

Police said it appeared he was under a meth-fueled delusion.

Gregg is charged with bail jumping, criminal trespassing and disorderly conduct. He’s free on a $1,000 signature bond.
