Chippewa County man gets probation for stealing, selling welding equipment

Chippewa County (WQOW) – A Cornell man accused of stealing thousands of dollars in equipment from a local construction company was sentenced to probation.

Last October, Larson Construction reported $6,500 of welding equipment had been stolen from their facility.

In December, James Cooley was arrested for meth possession. During their investigation, deputies discovered Cooley had sold the stolen welding equipment to his stepfather.

He pleaded no contest to theft in late August.

Judge Steven Cray sentenced him to three years of probation and two months of conditional jail time. He is also ordered to pay $5,000 in restitution.
