Scavenger hunt around Eau Claire ends in engagement

Eau Claire (WQOW) – It had been in the works since February.

Matthew Hell had sent his then girlfriend Jondrea on a scavenger hunt around Eau Claire, making her revisit all the spots in town that have special memories attached to them.

Phoenix Park, Ramone’s Ice Cream and the Starbucks where they had their first date were key destinations. The prize at the end of the search was Matt on one knee with an engagement ring.

“I don’t remember some of it,” Jondrea, said. “I was just in utter shock and nerves and awe of how sweet and thoughtful.”

Matt wrote clues to Jondrea given to her by their loved ones, including her three daughters who were in on the surprise.

“First I told Sarah, her youngest, and she was just crazy about it.,” Matt said, laughing at the memory. “Then I told Gracie and she just had a big smile on her face. Then I told Emily and she was just like, ‘Oh my God!'”

The couple met while doing yoga, a passion they now share. It wasn’t love at first sight, but they quickly realized they had something special.

“I actually got really angry because I’m like, ‘Oh there’s this young, handsome man who’s going to do yoga next to me and this is just going to be a sweaty mess.’ I didn’t want anything to do with it whatsoever,” Jondrea said.

“A ten minute conversation lead to a eight hour long day trip,” Matt added.

Matt’s brother Mitch followed Jondrea along the whole journey, filming the event and compiling it into a video so they can always look back on the special day.

“It was a huge surprise, but at the same time not because that’s Matt’s heart, and that’s what we love about him,” Jondrea said.

Matt gave Jondrea not just a proposal, but also a new family and a lifetime of happiness.
