Chippewa Falls (WQOW) – Chippewa County deputies are saving a lot of time and manpower thanks to a new device.
Last week, the sheriff’s department installed a new breathalyzer kiosk, or what they call a PBT machine, on the first floor of the jail.
More than 100 people in Chippewa County need to get daily breathalyzer tests.
Deputies said when they administered the tests, people would wait 20 minutes to get their results.
This machine is much faster and gives law enforcement and the people getting tested more time to get other work done.
“During a given day, we can have transports coming in. We deal with court. We deal with probation. There’s a lot of other tasks such as getting meals out to individuals in the jail, the inmates. That allows us to get those tasks done in a timely manner,” said Renee Stoll, a deputy with the Chippewa County Sheriff’s Department.
After people log in with their pin number and fingerprint scan they pay $3, take a straw and insert it into the machine.
The blow into the straw and the device tells them whether they are good to go.
