Blugolds’ volleyball is ready to turn the page to 2019

Eau Claire (WQOW) — Coming off one of the best seasons in program history, the UW-Eau Claire volleyball team is focused on this year and ready for a fresh start.

The Blugolds won the regular season and WIAC tournament, clinched an NCAA tournament bid, and advanced to the final four in 2018. But that was last year’s group, and they’re ready to turn the page to this season. They do have to replace a talented group of five seniors, but younger players are ready to step up and fill in. Still Eau Claire is picked to win conference for the second straight season, and this team is ready to leave their own mark in the history books.

“We’re looking at just really starting over. We don’t get to carry over that momentum, or we don’t get to carry over any points or any wins from last year,” says head coach Kim Wudi. “So we’re really excited about the team that we have right now, and not looking backwards we’re just looking forward. ”

“One of our big things is to use the feelings that we got last year and to pursue our work ethic in the gym everyday, to want to get back to where we were,” junior outside hitter Makenzie Bachmann says. “But we do know that we’re starting over. We lost a lot of people, we have a new team, and nothing that happened last year is guaranteed.”

UW-Eau Claire opens their season August 30th, they’ll travel to Virginia for the Christopher Newport Tournament.
