Sheriff: Ghost tales leading to Dunn County church vandalism

Dunn County (WQOW) – Saturday night, authorities believe five people vandalized a church in Dunn County. Now, officials say ghost stories are what have led to a rash of incidents there.

According to Dunn County Sheriff Kevin Bygd, the Spring Brook Lutheran Church and old school house in Elk Mound have been the target of a number break-ins and vandalism over the years.

Saturday’s crime in particular involved a broken window to gain entry into the building.

According to the sheriff, a big reason for the draw to this rural church is phenomena around a ghost story.

According to unexplainedresearch.com, the church is believed to be the site of paranormal activity following the tale of a minister’s death in the belfry.

Because of the old wives’ tale, the sheriff said for years overtime security had to be hired on Halloween night to discourage these crimes.
