More substitute teachers, bus drivers needed before school year starts

Eau Claire (WQOW) – The school year is coming up fast, but the Eau Claire School District needs even more substitute teachers to help instruct your children.

You have probably seen ads for the position both online and around town with yard signs.

This year, a short-term substitute teacher can make about $110 a day.

If you are a long-term substitute with a bachelor’s degree you can make $201 a day.

On average, about 200 to 300 substitutes sign up every school year.

Subs help keep the curriculum going when the regular teacher is absent and school officials look for certain qualifications when hiring them.

“Their ability to relate to children and students. Their ability to be flexible and be able to step in and then we’re looking for people who are knowledgeable in the curriculum so that they can be a resource for students when their teachers are not in the room,” said Eau Claire Superintendent Mary Ann Hardebeck.

Interested applicants can call the school’s HR office at 715-852-3050 or apply by clicking/tapping here.

Meanwhile, the people that take your child to school could also use a few more helping hands.

Eau Claire Student Transit General Manager Marty Klukas said right now there are 115 drivers. He said that is plenty to cover all of the different routes that Student Transit serves.

Klukas said they could use about 10 more people to help fill shifts, drive field trips and extra curriculars.
