Express lose on a walk-off to Traverse City in championship game.

Traverse City (WQOW) — The Express dropped a tough one to Traverse City in the Northwoods League championship game Friday night, losing 3-2 on a walk-off error.

Eau Claire started the scoring in the top of the first inning, as Spencer Kohnle hit a two RBI single to give them the early lead. Traverse City would finally get on the board in the fifth, as Andrew Morrow hit a sacrifice fly making it 2-1. It would stay that way until the bottom of the ninth, when Riley Bertram tied the game with an RBI off an error. Then with the bases loaded a few batters later, Morrow walked it off on another error making the final score 3-2.

Nick Alvarado was sharp on the mound for the Express to start the game, striking out seven batters and not allowing an earned run. Kohnle, Zach Gilles, and Connor Laspina all led Eau Claire at the plate, each finishing with two hits.

Eau Claire finishes the season in second place, with a 43-33 overall record.
