Miracle League season comes to a close in Eau Claire

Eau Claire (WQOW) – Take me out to the ball game! That’s what many kids and adults might’ve been thinking during the Miracle League’s final games of the season Wednesday night.

Family and friends cheered on players with special needs at Miracle League Baseball Field in Eau Claire’s Jeffers Park.

The Miracle League of the Chippewa Valley pairs a child with a “buddy” or on-field volunteer to help them play the game.

They even had extra helping hands from their friends in blue, Eau Claire police officers.

The Miracle League commissioner said she’s not ready to stop seeing the kids this season. But she’s glad she helped give them a fun summer activity.

“We found out that there is a need for thousands of kids for something to do in the summer. Special Olympics only runs through the school year, and so we wanted to have an activity that kids could do throughout the summer, and so you know, why not baseball?” said Amy Standiford.
