Barron County woman hospitalized after ‘substantial’ house fire

Barron County (WQOW) – A New Auburn woman spent a day in the hospital after a fire at her home.

According to Barron County Sheriff Chris Fitzgerald, the homeowner called in the fire around 2:30 a.m. on Monday from her home at 216 30th Street in New Auburn.

That homeowner, Tonia Morrison, 45, was taken to an Eau Claire hospital for smoke inhalation. She was released on Tuesday morning.

Fitzgerald said the damage to the house is “substantial.” The cause is being investigated.
