Feed My People gets creative with summer program

Eau Claire (WQOW) – A local food bank said during the summer months they are finding it harder to reach our youngest citizens still in need of their services.

They hope a new program will change that.

Feed My People Food Bank held a pop-up pantry event Friday in Eau Claire. More than 100 people stopped in the Lakeshore neighborhood from 2-3 p.m. where Feed My People offered a variety of food – from canned goods to frozen meats, cheeses and even fresh produce.

“It really started with our weekend kids program. We serve close to 2,000 kids during the school year, but once summer comes we have a hard time connecting with them once school is out,” said Suzanne Becker, assistant director at Feed My People. “So, we want to do something better and the idea of taking the truck and doing what we call the pop-up pantry. You know, it’s just to bring the food into the neighborhood and make it easier for folks to get the help they need.”

The next pop-up pantry will be Saturday from 10 to 11 a.m. at Longfellow Elementary.
