(WQOW) – A warning for dog owners, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the Food and Drug Administration said you should not give your pooches pig ear treats.
They are also advising retailers to stop selling them.
Public health officials have been investigating a multi-state outbreak of human salmonella infections connected to contact with pig ear pet treats.
Over the past month, 127 people in 33 states have gotten salmonella and dozens were hospitalized.
So far, theyre have been two voluntary recalls after products tested positive for the bacteria.

Several companies recalled pig ear products because they might be contaminated with Salmonella. Ongoing testing of pig ears indicates that many brands of pig ears might be contaminated with Salmonella.
No single supplier, distributor or common brand of pig ear treats has been identified that could account for all the illnesses. More products could be recalled as testing identifies Salmonella.
