Chippewa County Shootings: What we know so far

Chippewa County (WQOW) – Five people are dead after a pair of shootings in Chippewa County on Sunday night and early Monday morning. Here is what we know so far.

Locations: The two shootings happened in Lake Hallie and Lafayette. The Lake Hallie shooting was at 13578 45th Avenue. The Lafayette shooting was at 16964 54th Avenue.

Timing: While we do not know when the shootings happened, we do know police were called to the Lake Hallie home at 10:20 p.m. Sunday and found others dead inside the Lafayette four-plex at 2:30 a.m.

Who was involved: Authorities have not named those involved, but Lake Hallie police say two were found dead and two others were injured in Lake Hallie. That includes the suspected shooter. Three people were found dead in Lafayette, including a man, woman and child.

Synopsis of events: Police were called to the Lake Hallie home and found two dead and two injured. Several hours later, authorities went to the town of Lafayette to notify family of the shooting. When they got to the four-plex nobody answered the door. So, police forced their way in and found three more dead.

Suspect: Police have not identified the suspect, now deceased, but do believe he/she is responsible for all of the deaths. They also did not say how the shooter died.

What’s next? Sheriff Jim Kowalczyk said more information will be released on Tuesday afternoon.
