UPDATE: Names released in chase, fatal crash in St. Croix County

St Croix County (WQOW) – The St. Croix County Sheriff’s Office has released the names of the two people involved in Saturday’s deadly crash.

According to the sheriff’s office, the driver of the motorcycle killed in the crash was Dustin Kalland, 39, of Stillwater, Minnesota.

The driver of the other vehicle was Brandon Lieffring, 37, from New Richmond.

Lieffring is being held in jail for homicide by intoxicated use and operating while suspended causing death, however the District Attorney will formally charge either Monday or Tuesday, according to officials.

St. Croix County (WQOW) – A chase ended when it turned fatal in St. Croix County on Saturday afternoon.

The crash happened on Highway 46 near Deer Park around 4:12 p.m. when the suspect being chase collided with a motorcycle.

According to the St. Croix County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were dispatched to an incident where a person had stolen a vehicle and violated a no-contact order.

Deputies tried to stop the driver on Highway 65 near New Richmond, but the driver took off and a chase ensued.

They say the chase continued to Highway 46 toward the village of Deer Park. As the chase entered the village the suspect passed over drivers on the left hand side of the road.

However, there were several motorcycles making a left hand turn.

The suspect hit one of those motorcyclists, according to the sheriff’s office.

The suspect took off running and was stopped by deputies a short time later.

Lifesaving measures were performed on the motorcyclist but he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Neither the name of the motorcyclist nor the name of the suspect was released.
