Pizza Hut Post 53 start the River City Classic with a win, look to three-peat

Eau Claire (WQOW) – Today was the start of the 24th annual River City Classic, and the reigning champs Eau Claire Pizza Hut Post 53 took a 3-1 win over Altoona to start the tournament.

Altoona got things rolling when Jacob Nelson sent the first pitch of game over the left field fence, and put them on the scoreboard. In the bottom Eau Claire was threatening with bases loaded, but Altoona was also sharp defensively and got out of the inning still up one. It was in the second when Pizza Hut’s Joe Feck put the ball in deep left, scoring Jake Fentress from first and tying up the game. In the third Fentress gave Eau Claire the lead with a shot to left that scored Logan Rasmussen. Pizza Hut went on to score another run late, and held Altoona to that one run.

The tournament continues through Saturday, the 5th.
