UPDATE: Worker killed at Volk Field was replacing runway lightbulbs

UPDATE: We now know the name of the state employee killed at Volk Field on Monday.

Officials with the Wisconsin Department of Military Affairs said Nicholas Janz, 40, a facility maintenance specialist, died while performing his job on Monday.

DMA spokeswoman Jackie Halverson said Janz was replacing lightbulbs on a runway when the accident occurred. She declined to elaborate on what happened to him.

Janz was an employee there since 2010.

He leaves behind his wife and three kids.

VOLK FIELD (WKOW) — Wisconsin military officials say a state employee died Monday while working at Volk Field.

According to The Wisconsin Department of Military Affairs, the worker died while performing duties at the military airport in Juneau County on Monday morning.

Military investigators are working with local and state officials to review the accident.

Officials have not released the employee’s name, as they wait to notify family. More information is expected Tuesday.
