Chippewa Falls (WQOW) – A new park is open to the public near Glen Loch Lake in Chippewa Falls.
The idea for Erickson Park started back in 2013, and now the $2.3 million project is complete. The 15-acre land on the Glen Loch Flowage includes picnic, pavilion, and play areas, along with trails, a bridge connecting Erickson Park to Irvine Park, and multiple access points to fishing areas.
Dick Hebert, director of Chippewa Falls Parks, Recreation and Forestry told News 18 he’s thrilled to welcome the public to the new space. “A main centerpiece of this project is the pedestrian bridge that connects Irvine Park with Erickson Park,” said Hebert. “I hope people come out and enjoy it. There still some work to be done, but it’s beautiful, it’s very scenic and we’re so proud of this project.”
According to Hebert, private donations covered $1.2 million of the park’s cost, and $1.1 million was covered by various state and federal grants, including $851,000 from the Land and Water Conservation Fund.
Thursday’s grand opening ceremony had to battle with some unfavorable weather, but families can now enjoy the park well into the future.
