Is your AC unit ready for summer?

Eau Claire (WQOW)- There’s a potential heat wave on the horizon here in the Chippewa Valley.

Now could be the time to check your air conditioning, so you don’t sweat it later.

Experts actually advise you inspect your AC before you need it, even as early as spring.

Monte Holty, a sales engineer at Kurth Heating and Cooling in Chippewa Falls, said you should make sure there are no grass clippings or seeds impacted in the air conditioner’s coils.

If you find any, rinse them off, because they can impact the way your AC works.

He said older units will need to be checked more often, and if you’re in the market to buy a new one, it’s important you buy the right size.

“If you’re between two sizes, we always try to size down,” Holty said. “When it’s hot and humid we do not want a unit on and off and on and off because you get lousy moisture control and we want the homes to be a dry cool and not a clammy cool.”

Holty said you should plan your cooking based on the weather and try not to bake or boil water when it’s hot and humid outside.

Experts advise you switch your ceiling fan rotation so it’s spinning counter clockwise, blowing the air straight down.
