Eau Claire (WQOW) – The high school boys tennis season has reached it’s final weekend, and once again the Eau Claire Memorial team is one of the division one teams left standing. The program has seen tremendous success over the last few decades, making it to state 18 of the 19 seasons.
While this is an elite program, this group in particular rosters a number of seniors. They credit some of their success to the close-knit bond this team has formed.
“All the guys, we have such a nice group of guys. I mean really kind and really encouraging,” says senior Mark Pepperl. “Their personalities are just phenomenal. And for that reason it’s not only fun on the court, but it’s incredibly fun off the court too.”
And this year might hold some extra special motivation for the Old Abes.
“I know this year we’ve been focusing on trying to fight the hardest this year rather than years before,” says senior Liam Obaid. “It’s probably going to be one of our coach’s last year teaching. We want to try and make the best of it, and try to finish strong for him.
The third-ranked team Old Abes take on the the six-seed Green Bay Southwest Friday night at 5:30 p.m.
