One bike trail system could get you around the entire Chippewa Valley

Eau Claire (WQOW) – Local officials want to connect the Chippewa Valley through its many bike trails, making a system of routes for riders.

There are 20 bike routes throughout the Chippewa Valley. The idea is to re-brand them as one big system to help people get around, while promoting bike culture. The West Central Wisconsin Regional Planning Commission is working on the project with city governments from Eau Claire, Chippewa Falls, Altoona and Lake Hallie.

Officials said the Chippewa Valley needs a system like this. “It’s going to add an opportunity for people to get from point A to point B,” said Eric Anderson, senior planner with the Regional Planning Commission. “Whether it’s Irvine Park or Owen Park or different places within our community, they are going to more easily be able to do that. It’s going to make it easier for people and safer for people to bike within our community.”

Anderson said the next step for the project is to install signs along the designated routes by the end of the year and into 2020.
