Altoona (WQOW) — Officials are asking for your donations to Altoona’s Care Closet, so they can keep serving kids in need.
Right now, the greatest need is for boys clothes, from toddler sizes to pre-teens. They’re also looking for summer clothes, blankets and towels.
The Altoona Care Closet provides clothes and hygiene products to children in the school district who otherwise don’t have the means to get them. Even if you don’t have extra clothes lying around, Joyce Orth, executive assistant for the Altoona School District, told News 18 there are still ways you can help them out.
“They can watch for thrift sales and maybe go to those when they close and pick up those items for us, especially those items in our need area,” Orth said.
Along with any clothing donations, Orth said monetary ones are always welcome, as they have to purchase any hygiene items.
The care closet will be open specific dates during the summer; June 20, July 11 and 25, and August 8 (10 a.m. to 2 p.m.) During the school year, it will be open the first Wednesday of every month (8:30 to 11 a.m. 3 to 6 p.m.)
