3 people rescued from Chippewa River Sunday, authorities warn river is dangerous

Eau Claire (WQOW) – Three people were rescued from the Chippewa River on Sunday, after they were separated from their kayaks.

The Eau Claire Fire Department responded to the call near the UW-Eau Claire foot bridge just after 3 p.m. Two people from the group made it to shore. Fire officials said the third person was in the fast moving water, clinging to an overhanging branch.

Eau Claire fire officials launched a boat from Hobbs boat landing and rescued the person in the water. Another boat was launched to retrieve the two loose kayaks and the group’s personal belongings.

Fire officials said nobody was hurt in the incident. In a Facebook post from the Eau Claire Police Department, another individual was rescued from the water. Authorities are recommending everyone stay off the river this Memorial Day weekend.
