Outlook: A wet transition to Memorial Day weekend

Showers will impact the Eau Claire area and western Wisconsin between late Thursday night and Friday evening. But, most of the upcoming holiday weekend will be fantastic. Rain returns on Memorial Day.

Showers are likely late Thursday night through Friday. Some areas could receive a quarter to half inch of rain.

Thursday will be mostly cloudy and breezy with temperatures climbing into the middle 60s. The surface low that brought strong winds gusts on Wednesday is still in our vicinity, and it will slowly depart in the afternoon. Thursday afternoon could be sunnier than anticipated with a weak surface high over the region. Then, cloud cover will increase on Thursday night, as another surface low moves over the north central United States. Showers will develop and affect our area after midnight, and expect off and on rain on Friday with highs in the upper 60s. Rain totals of a quarter to half inch are possible in some areas, while others will receive less.

Saturday and Sunday will be mostly sunny, and both days will feel great! Highs will be in the middle to upper 70s, and lows will be in the upper 40s and 50s. Humidity will not be an issue. If you plan to spend time on the water, whether it is a leisurely boat ride or fishing, we recommend staying away from dams and fast-moving water. Beware of changing conditions on lakes and rivers.

Memorial Day weekend outlook

Rain returns on Memorial Day, though the latest weather forecast model runs suggest most of the rain will hold off until the afternoon and evening. Regardless, check your WQOW weather app or tune in for the latest information! The rest of the week will be partly to mostly cloudy with off and on rain. Thankfully, temperatures will be decent with highs in the 60s and 70s!
