Eau Claire (WQOW) – Attorney General Josh Kaul was in Eau Claire to talk about the state’s lawsuit against Purdue Pharma.
The lawsuit alleges Purdue Pharma repeatedly made false and deceptive claims regarding opioids. Four other states have since followed suit.
Wisconsin was one of 25 states that won a $20 million lawsuit against the drug makers in 2007 for deceptive marketing.
Kaul said the lawsuit is about holding Purdue Pharma accountable and ultimately helping Wisconsinites recover.
“Insuring that we maximize the state’s recovery but also that there is an accounting of the conduct that helps lead to this epidemic, I think is important,” Kaul said. “Also, in recovering funds, I’m hopeful to see that we’ll be able to put funds toward re-mediating of this epidemic.”
Purdue Pharma has denied all allegations.
