Graduation season is a busy time for bakeries

Eau Claire (WQOW)- It’s a busy time for local bakeries as they prepare for all the graduation orders coming their way.

Amy Miller, the bakery department manager at the Festival Foods on Mall Drive in Eau Claire, said they have a graduation boot camp to prepare for graduation season.

Miller said during the boot camp they go through what they can do to make cakes faster, and to make sure they’re ready for the 200 cakes a week they’re going to be making.

She said from the middle of May to the end of June, they even stop taking wedding orders and focus on graduation cakes.

She said they have 22 people who work in the bakery to make sure everything is done on time, she said the sooner you get your orders in the better.

“We ask for at least a week notice if possible, but we’ve been getting a ton of orders,” Miller said. “Just today I’ve already done four different graduation cakes for the beginning of June orders, so as far in advance as possible if you know. You really want to make sure to get that in we would hate to ever have to turn anyone away. We want to make sure we can make every cake for everyone.”

Miller said so far they haven’t ever had to turn anyone away.
