Convicted sex offender sentenced to probation after cutting off ankle bracelet

Eau Claire (WQOW) — A convicted sex offender, who cut off his ankle bracelet and was not heard from by police for months, agreed to a plea deal with prosecutors on Monday.

Leigh Beebe was convicted of third degree sexual assault in 2012. He was released to a home on Randall Street in August of 2017, but a little over a week later police said he stopped responding to written correspondence. Officials then learned that his ankle bracelet had been tampered with.

Monday, Beebe pleaded no contest to not updating his information with the state. Eau Claire County Judge Jon Theisen sentenced him to two years of probation, which will be tacked on to the sentence he is already serving.
