Durand teacher arrested for inappropriate relationship with 14-year-old student

Durand (WQOW) – A 24-year-old teacher is accused of having an inappropriate relationship with a 14-year-old student in Durand.

Sarah Heskin of Eau Claire is charged in Pepin County with using a computer to facilitate a child sex crime.

According to the staff directory, Heskin is an English teacher at Durand Middle School. This is her first year teaching in the Durand-Arkansaw School District.

According to the criminal complaint, police were called to the school after numerous students claimed Heskin was sending naked photos and videos to the eighth-grade boy.

Heskin originally told police she had a typical student/teacher relationship with the student. Later, however, she told police she and the victim have kissed and she sent the victim photos and a video of herself on Instagram. Heskin told police she was naked on the upper half in the video and that she was drunk when she did it. She also told police her and the victim set up secret Instagram accounts to communicate in secret.

The victim denied sending or receiving the social media messages, telling police he once tried to kiss Heskin, which upset her.

News 18 reached out to school staff and the district administrator, but no one would comment on the investigation.

In a press release from the Durand Police Department, Chief of Police Stanley Ridgeway said he does not believe there are other victims. He said the school is cooperating with the investigation and is making counselors available to any students who need support.

Friday, Pepin County Judge Tom Clark set a $10,000 signature bond for Heskin with the condition she not contact the victim or the victim’s family.

Heskin is due back in court June 4.
