Eau Claire (WQOW) – As we approach the halfway point of spring, Eau Claire County officials want to remind you that western Wisconsin is at the highest risk for wildfires in the coming weeks.
As flowers and trees start to bloom and with bonfire season around the corner, Eau Claire County Emergency Management Manager Tyler Esh said it’s important to monitor the wildfire risk everyday, because it doesn’t take much to start a fire.
“If you do burn and you have a permit and your allowed to burn that day, make sure the fire is fully extinguished at the end. Put it out. Put it out more than you feel you need too. The last thing we need is some wind to kick it up and get it going,” Esh said.
With the rain in the forecast this week, Esh said the fire risk will be lower, but high risk areas like the Town of Seymour will still need to be monitored. Esh said the DNR updates fire danger levels daily, and his office will put out social media posts if the risk is high or extreme.
